Uncle Rod
18/02/08 20:11

Rod Watts, Uncle Rod to us passed away on Saturday 16th February. He was our dear friend, a part of our lives for so many years. Tony first met him when he was 5 on his first trip into Bonners. Rod was there smoking his cigar and playing a piano. Rod was being taught at the same piano school as Tony, though he was doing work beyond grade 8 for his degree. They appeared in the same concert together at that music school where Tony played something like Three Blind Mice and Rod something a tad more complicated LOL! Rod remained in Tony's life albeit not as a friend from many years.
As Tony got older and started working at Bonners he became friends with Rod, had some lessons from him and when I met Tony in 1991, Rod became a dear friend to me also.
When we left home in 1994, it was Rod who helped us decorate the flat, who cooked us meals and shared many bottles of wine with. On the birth of our daughter he was the obvious choice to us as Godfather, he was stunned and took the role with honour and love.
Rod was a true genius, he taught maths and music to the highest level and had the most wonderful complicated brain
Life without Uncle Roddy Woddy isn't going to be so much fun,the ray of sunshine and crazy answerphone messages have gone. We're lucky to have known him, to have been able to laugh at some of the things he would say and do, to hug him and smell his coffee and cigars, to all be called by double barreled names. I can't sum up the life he offered, the friendship and love we shared. I just want to say thank you to him and to let the world know he was here.

Memories and Thoughts

Have been going through Facebook trying to recognise names of people I went to school with- I'm that bored!
I then ended up at my school's website (which is crap) and found this passage. We used to say it every morning and it's made me remember many things since forgotten. I had even forgotten saying it!
God has created me to do
Him some definite service
He has committed some
work
to me which he has
not committed to
another.
I am a link in a chain,
a bond of connection
between persons.
He has not created me for naught.
I shall do good.
I shall do his work.
