Took a while to get into but then really enjoyed it. Liked the way you thought you were getting one type of story and then getting something very different. Many hidden stories within. Occasionally felt like the author was doing a cop out to the masses and then swerved back into his own style. He didn't do this in Notes from an Exhibition.

Love her books and the twisty way she writes. Really enjoyed this book of love and desire and the path life leads us.

Set in Canada in 1911 this book brings
the story of Dora Rare, a young and strong woman from a small
fishing town. Set amongst old wives tales and folk customs, it
tells of her early life and her learning to be a midwife to the
community. A really lovely book, showing passion and strength of
women, fighting for their rights and the joy of living a chosen
life.
